I've recently been spending a lot of time with a guy from my work, who's separated from his wife. I don't know if we're just talking, or if I can assume he is expecting more from this, perhaps evolve into a relationship. The fact that there is a large age difference is also an issue.
I am completely comfortable with him, but can still go out and have a good time. He understands that I do have my own life outside of him.
I'm sure the attention you are getting is very flattering. What concerns me is his marital status, and the reason is that personally, I do not advocate dating separated men to a single women.
The reason is simple: they can go back to their wives at any time. My point is, if the ink is not dry on divorce papers, then he is married.
Enjoy the attention he gives you, but by no means would I question him about relationship. How many times did you meet someone, begin dating, then have that person end the relationship, because of that fear you might want to go back?
It is sad for someone to get hurt when that other person goes back to their spouse. Most of the relationships that women start with newly separated men ended badly and left them feeling used, with a lot of other negative stuff thrown in there.
Bottom line: Why would someone who has no vested interest in a person already knowingly jump into a situation where they will probably have to deal with the emotional pain that person is feeling for the loss of a previous relationship?
That's a tough thing to do. Knowing your own limitations, knowing your strengths and weaknesses, knowing what you want out for your life and not being willing to ignore all of that for just a possibility is not equivalent to being cold.
